PIRANHA ALLEY opened in April 1989 in an alley right off the Burdick Mall.  It became a Mecca of skate function and fashion.  In 1997 the storefront moved to the main mall, and the expansion allowed the inclusion of snowboards and many new brands of gear, as well as scads of videos, amenities, gimmicks, doodads, fandangle, gewgaws, and gimcracks. Run by real skaters, Piranha Alley was genuine and fun.  It closed on Dec 30, 2003, but is survived by the Pro Shop at the K-Zoo Skate Zoo at the edge of town.
