January 1979 saw the opening of one of the most unusual bar/restaurants ever seen in Kalamazoo. Nestled in the Eastwood Shopping Plaza, the Send in the Clowns circus theme included calliope music, a bar shaped like a circus animal wagon, and clown posters & busts. According to promotional literature, huge papier-mâché mannequins constantly grinned at customers. Food and cocktails were served by wait staff in clown outfits with puff-ball buttons. The venture was gone less than a year later. |
